Start the year strong! Be inspired and challenged!
I would love to hear what you think, and see what you’ve had open on your desktop this week.
Here’s what I’ve been reading:
How Your Defensiveness is Preventing You from Being Successful … by Dale Partridge. “The secret to speeding up success is to enhance our ability to embrace correction regardless of how awkward, painful, or humiliating it might be.” Great advice, and valuable lessons that don’t pull any punches.
Does Christianity Limit Personal Freedom … at Restitutio. As you know I’m a sucker for a good analogy, and this short piece offers a couple of great ones! (As an aside, if you enjoy digging in to Scripture, I encourage you to spend some time on Sean’s site. He has some thought-provoking podcasts and videos to check out, as well as articles. )
Four Words That Will Radically Impact Your Hardest Relationships … at Divine Encounter. When people hurt us, our perspective makes all the difference in how we react, and how we move forward.
A Sobering Letter to the Wife with the Filthy House … at Imperfect Homemaker. This blogger received a question from a husband asking, “Is a filthy house grounds for a divorce?” Addressing the anonymous wife, this post is honest and to the point, yet kind.
Why is Pakistan More Legitimate Than Israel?… by Dennis Prager. “Of all the 200-plus countries in the world, only Israel’s legitimacy is challenged.” A fascinating article that makes some comparisons I hadn’t seen before, and asks some good questions. This video on ‘The Middle East Problem’ pairs nicely with it, and offers a perspective that you won’t see on the news, as does this list of telling statistics.
Have We Forgotten How to Blush?… at To Love, Honor, and Vacuum. Has guilt been given a bum rap? Does it serve a positive purpose? This author proposes that it does, and suggests that when we shun guilt from our culture we do it to our detriment.
Tales From the Laundromat … at Skipah’s Realm. It’s been awhile since I’ve been to a laundromat. Reading this lighthearted account brought me right back…and clearly things haven’t changed a bit! This is funny. Be sure to read the captions on the pictures. I laughed out loud more than once!
What have you been reading? Do share!
*A brief disclaimer…I found these particular articles read-worthy. That doesn’t mean that I concur with or advocate everything on the site on which individual posts appear.

My son was out of school until Tuesday so I am just getting back on track and looking for things to read so I saw two post above I can’t wait to read. The first one is about the laundromat and the second one is about a dirty house. Have a Blessed day and thank you for being here for us and for joining us in the Ultimate Blog Challenge.

Thanks for stopping by, Glenda. And I’m so glad you found some things that interest you! We are getting back into the school routine this week, too.

Thank you for the mention, I had no idea my miserable day at the laundromat was so inspiring to everybody :). Stay warm my friend!

Your misery, our entertainment-right? 🙂 Thanks for writing!

Nice share. I’ve read more than a few of the ones you posted. Some made me laugh, some made me think, and at least one incensed me greatly.
Par for the daily read…
Susan says
Roy, which one incensed you greatly? Was there one from this week? I remember awhile back, one of the sites (although not the post I shared) had some things you found offensive. Your comment led me to consider putting a disclaimer on these lists, which I’m glad I did. Although I may like a post, I don’t necessarily agree with everything on a particular site. I’m curious though, what this week could have been upsetting?

Thank you for a great post. I especially like your post on Israel. Many people challenge it’s existence. You can’t have peace with someone who wants you dead!

Amen!

Wonderful article Susan. I love hearing what other people are reading. I’m reading the soon to be released title by Sally Clarkson and her son Nathan Clarkson. The book is called Different: The Story of an Outside-of-the-Box Kid and the Mom Who Loved Him. They wrote the book together and are sharing their story with the world. It’s very inspiring and I know it will be helpful to many people who feel “different.”
Susan says
Ooooo, that book sounds fascinating! Will be watching for it. Thanks for the share.

Informative reading topics and extremely varied too – I love reading fiction and shy away from non fiction as it chronicles the ailings of present day life and makes me miserable. But I have marked some of yours as they seem humourous – could do with a good laugh! Happy to have connected over UBC.

Tales from the Laundromat had to be my best read this week!!!

I was drawn to the article on having forgotten how to blush. This partial paragraph especially stood out to me:
When guilt and shame go out the window, honour often follows. Honour means taking responsibility for your actions, and standing up for what’s right. Today, feelings matter more than actions, and the greatest good no longer is doing what’s right, but defending what one does, whatever it is, passionately.
I see this so often these days, especially in marriages that are failing. Honor and integrity just aren’t important to so many people anymore!
Susan says
Is it possible that one paragraph sums up what’s wrong with the world?! And I agree totally, marriages are impacted in huge ways by this. Thanks for sharing!
