Some of these Christmas songs will make you cringe, some will make you laugh, others will be a welcome addition to your listening repertoire. Enjoy!
These aren’t the Christmas songs they’re playing on the radio.
They’re not the songs you’ll hear at the mall.
I can pretty much guarantee that one listen to some of these will be enough. I do hope, however, that among the others you may discover something new to add to your listening repertoire.
These Christmas songs are totally out there
So…. did YOU know that there was a Star Wars Christmas album put out in 1980?
–
–
And if you knew that, did you know that on it was Jon Bon Jovi‘s first professional recording?
–
–
Weird Al’s modern classic may not be one you want to watch with the kiddos around. It’s….. a little more violent than most Christmas songs.
–
–
My family first heard this song a couple of years ago. And frankly, we love it. It makes us very happy.
–
–
This is just weird. There’s nothing else to say about it.

Yuletide Retro Glory
It’s a Very Brady Christmas!
–
–
And how could we have the Bradys without also featuring the Partridge Family?!
–
–
Did Yuletide Disco need to be made? No, but I’m glad it did. What else am I supposed to dance to at Christmas time while pretending to be one of Charlie’s Angels?

Stars Who Tried Their Hand at Christmas Songs…You Be the Judge
When Regis Philbin makes an animated Christmas video, of course his pal, not-yet-President, Donald Trump makes an appearance.
–
There’s yelling. There’s auto-tuning. Oh how I wish there were a video to go along with this trainwreck. I’m picturing ruffle-y mariachi sleeves and maracas.
–
–
–
I was a big NKOTB fan back in the day. Apparently not a big enough fan, though, as I never heard of this gem.
–
–
I was also a Crash Test Dummies fan…much to my college roommate’s chagrin. If you went through the “Mmm..Mmm..Mmm..Mmm” phase too, you’re gonna love this!
–
–
Want to see Billy Idol trying way too hard…here’s your chance.
–
–
Weezer and Christmas music do not a pair make in my world. (I’m a big fan of The Sweater Song, don’t get me wrong.) But this is not my bag. But that’s not to say it won’t be yours.
–
–
The tale of a department store Santa being mugged…sure, that’s the Christmas spirit.
–
–
William Shatner…yes please.

Successful Surprises
You may know Seth MacFarlane as the creator and voice talent on ‘Family Guy’…but did you know that his singing voice is smooth like Frank Sinatra? This song comes from a whole Christmas album that got a lot of play time last year at my house.
–
–
This was a real treat to stumble upon. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I mean…Johnny Cash, y’all.
–
–
Country music isn’t my favorite, but I do like me some Garth Brooks. I owned his Christmas album on cassette back in college. This song gives me chill bumps.

You Might Not Have Heard…
Unless you are in the Twin Cities area, you have probably never heard of Lorie Line. A family friend of ours used to work for her, and so my parents got us tickets to see her perform a few times. She is an amazing performer. Lorie is an incredibly gifted pianist, but her shows were a mix of a full swing band, theatrics and fantastic vocals. I like to put her Christmas songs on for a quiet afternoon around the house.
‘Zat You?
The great Louis Armstrong. A made up word. And Santa. What could be wrong with that…I mean ‘zat?! ‘Zat You Santa Claus has been remade by the likes of Buster Poindexter and the Brian Setzer Orchestra. But we’re going to stick with the original “Zat”.
–
So, how ‘zat for a list of Christmas songs?!
This is my “Z” post (‘Zat) for my Crazy4Blogging group. You can go back and read “C”, “R”, and “A“…… “Y” to come next week!

Hahahah these are great!! I will definitely play these when I finally get around to putting up my Christmas tree
Matt @ Sprinkles and Sawdust! says
Oh man the Star Wars Christmas Album is right up there with the Holiday Special in awful kitsch 70s awesomeness.
I loved that Cash version of I Heard The Bells. Good find.
Susan says
I haven’t seen the special, but heard it is out there…and painfully bad as well!
Helene says
We got such a kick out of listening to these this morning! Thanks for sharing!
Roy A. Ackerman, PhD, EA says
Never heard that Weezer version. But, I loved hearing the Kinks again. And, being introduced to Lorie Line.
The Great Gordino says
Oh, what a collection!
The Star Wars ones were enough smiles for me for the rest of the day – superb!
I’ll have work my way through these!
Thanks,
Gordon
Susan says
They were some of my favorites, too. Enjoy!
Chondra Rankin says
Haha, loved it! I’m so glad you included Jingle Cats – I thought of them before I saw it on your list… one year, a college roommate gave me that CD. Oh, MY! I’m not typically even a cat fan, it’s interesting! LOL Thanks for the smile today!
Susan says
I am not a cat fan either, Chondra (may have something to do with allergies). I cannot imagine a whole album! Too funny!
Jane Porterfield says
It’s pretty amazing and sometimes funny who or what makes Christmas music. Years ago, it was just the old faithfuls like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. The days there are all sorts of versions of the tradition tunes. Some are east to like, others, not so much.
Susan says
I tend to prefer the “classics”, for sure! Every once in awhile something surprises me, though.
Jerusha Agen says
I can’t believe there was a Star Wars Christmas album! Well, more like I can’t believe I didn’t know that. My siblings and I were huge Star Wars fans growing up, and we would have loved that album! Thanks for sharing these, Susan.
Susan says
Apparently, there was also a (painfully awful) TV Christmas Special. We’re big Star Wars fans around here, too. When The Force Awakens opened, we had a group of friends over for a evening of themed snacks and fun before going to see the movie.
Jennifer Kelly says
These are great Susan! I personally love Dominic The Donkey! haha!
Susan says
It’s our FAVORITE!!
Shopgirl Anonymous says
“Zat You” is one of my all time favorite Christmas songs!! We used to play it every Christmas in the shop I worked in! Thank you for sharing! 🙂
heidi says
My favorite Christmas song is All I want by Mariah Carey. My husband loves holiday songs I am eh. Interesting selections especially Wierd Al lol.
Alicia Owen says
ha ha I can’t wait to listen to some more of these. I actually HAVE heard Dominique the Donkey, believe it or not. 😀 Stopping by from the Family Joy link up!
Kristin says
Love this list! The NKOTB song cracked me up! I also remember listening to the Garth Brooks cassette at my high school job during the holidays. Last… I’m from MN too! 🙂
Susan says
So glad you enjoyed them! And how fun that you’re from MN. 🙂 Stay warm riding out this polar vortex!
