But Susan, you said you were going to change the Food for Thought format. Yes, I did. But I also want to be sensitive to the feedback I receive. I heard from a number of readers who look forward to our Food for Thought posts in this format. I still plan to share notable articles to our Facebook page, so you can look for those as well, but for the time being, we’ll continue to share this way as well.
Here’s what I’ve been reading:
Things Moms With Boys Say … at Glorious Mom. This is too funny. I feel like if I wrote the things that came to my mind while reading this, my kids would not appreciate it, so I will keep them to myself and chuckle. I’m sure that every mom out there (of girls or boys) has a few of these.
Why we dress our best for church … at Walking in High Cotton. This lovely piece tackles every argument I’ve heard for why it doesn’t matter what we wear to church. I have to say I agree completely with her take on this issue, and love the way she writes with such clarity and grace.
A simple stay-at-home mom morning routine that will transform your days … at Growing Slower. I have to admit, I was skeptical when I clicked this link. Sure, I thought, another generic list. Not so! She starts by picking 5 things that, if they were the only things that got done that day, it would still be a good day. Love her printable, too, and the way she displays/uses it. Clever!
‘Clock boy’ discrimination case thrown out by Texas judge … at BBC News. Remember this case? This is the kind of thing that got tons of headlines at first, but then when things settle down and it gets thrown out…crickets. It’s a short piece, but I just thought I’d share the update with you!
The art of raising kids who will not bow to the idol of science … at Natasha Crain. This is a topic that my family is passionate about. Just this afternoon, my husband was invited to teach another seminar on Creation vs. Naturalism. It’s an important topic, and I really appreciated her logical and well thought out piece here. She starts with the premise that science is an important field of study that can give and has given us a wealth of knowledge about the workings of God’s creation. And she dismantles lies like this:
It’s an effective strategy that you can see everywhere in media today. Establish that science is the only reliable way to gain knowledge about the world, convince people they need to choose science or God, then smuggle in whatever you want to put forward as truth under the generic label of “science” and make everyone think disagreement is for the uneducated fools who didn’t make the smart choice.
8 truths about marriage that I learned from fairy tales … at To Love, Honor & Vacuum. I agree completely with the beginning of this post in which she says that we shouldn’t fill our heads with things that give us unrealistic expectations about marriage. And that’s why it’s so awesome that she goes on to draw Biblical lessons from the popular Disney fairy tales that we know and love.
What have you been reading?
*A brief disclaimer…I found these particular articles read-worthy. That doesn’t mean that I agree with or advocate everything on the site on which individual posts appear.

Thanks for sharing my post in your post–I found the other posts you shared very enlightening. Particularly the science one by Natasha. That is extremely relevant for us as a family and I will enjoy sharing her points around the dinner table with our little world-explorers!

Thank you so much for sharing my morning routine post! It’s near and dear to my heart because it has really made so much difference in my quality of life as a mom. I hope it’ll be an encouragement to your readers. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, Shannon, and you are very welcome. It’s a fantastic motivator! I really loved how flexible and ‘make-it-your-own’ it was. For some, it might mean 5 major tasks around the house every day, for others (like a new mom, for example) it really may be just putting actual clothes on. 🙂 Have a great day–
