In an effort to achieve my goal of growing my blog and shrinking my body, I’ve decided I really need to move more. Deciding and doing are miles apart, though, aren’t they? Blogging naturally involves a lot of sitting at the computer. Without reminders to get up and move, I get in the ‘zone’ and hours have passed.
Enter: Reminders!
I’ve downloaded an app that gives me pop up reminders to get up and move. There are ones specific to fitness, but I’ve chosen to try one called Life Reminders. I’m thinking this could come in handy with reminders to…
- stop at the store
- take medication
- return a call
- check on a kid’s progress with schoolwork
- get ready to leave for a tutoring appointment
- and about a million other things…
So every hour, I get an alert that says, “Get up and move.” And I do.
Get Up and Move Playlist
I created a playlist awhile ago I called, “Mom’s morning dance music.” (Can you guess when I played it?) …and when my reminder pops up, I pick a song and get up.
Throw in some sweet dance moves (sweet dance moves are in the eye of the beholder, you know….which is why my children stay out of the room when they hear the music, they remember mom’s morning dance moves all too well)… and it’s actually kind of fun.
I will warn you, it is an eclectic mix of music.
When my sister saw my list of Songs for a Mother’s Heart, she said, “We have different taste in music.” And I am cool with that! Disagreement doesn’t phase me. And, to be honest, my playlists are always changing.
Move your body
I need to say here how much I love this next song. I used to wake my boys up with it…a lot.
A lot.
What do you like to groove to, to the embarrassment of your kids?

I love this. An app that reminds me to get up and move? I HAVE to try that. I set the alarm, but it can be ignored. Thanks for sharing your playlist, eclectic sounds are the best. Going to borrow your idea (and most of your playlist) to get up and move to the music. Thanks so much for sharing.

I thought we were besties until I realized it’s just probably not going to work out because you even went as far as to suggest U2…but then I decided I’d forgive you…this once. 😉 hehe
One of my faves is Donna Lewis: I Love You Always forever.

Not a U2 fan? I will forgive you because you suggested something I’ve never heard of that I now have to check out immediately! 🙂

How cool to have an app tell me to get up and move! After I get home from my “real” work, I do my “fun” computer work, earning sites, cooking sites, and blogging. I can sit into the wee hours of the night, go to bed and hide under the covers to keep the light from waking hubby when I get a blog idea! I really need to follow your directions!
Susan says
I need to keep following them, too! 🙂 Glad to hear that I’m not the only one who stays up half the night writing.

I LOVE this! What a great idea and perfect way to make it fun! Walking on Sunshine and Footloose immediately get me up and moving and happy too!
Susan says
Thanks, Kristin! I tried to pick things that just naturally make me start moving when I hear them.

This is a great playlist! I may have to snag it for myself! I usually just put on whatever I’m in the mood for on Pandora and listen away 🙂 Music makes me lose myself, and it also helps my kids get moving in the morning while we’re walking to school (they HATE walking to school! I’ve found music or talking to my mom on the way are great motivators though!)
My friend introduced me to “Good Morning” by Mandisa. She’s a Zumba teacher and my first class with her, that was her first warm up song. I never missed another class with her again, until I was pregnant with my third child and couldn’t move off the couch for so many weeks. Still, every morning I woke up to this song, it was my alarm 🙂 I need to put it back up because my life without this song isn’t as good. Thank you for reminding me about it!

Music is such a power motivator, you are right. And it can also bring back memories like nothing else. Glad you found some good memories here today! I need to figure out how to set a song as my alarm…that’s a great idea!
