I have been teaching for over 20 years in public school, homeschool, individual and group settings. Watching information sink in, a lightbulb go on, or a student overcome a hurdle never gets old. I’d love to work with you and your family! Please contact me today.
I’m Susan Landry, a veteran teacher and homeschool parent. For the past decade I’ve homeschooled my own kids and led study groups on topics like government, economics, environmental science, and more. I’ve also taught just about everything from pre-school through adult education. While teaching 2nd grade, I was voted Teacher of the Year by my school. I thrive on the creative and would love to craft something that will educate, inspire, and entertain your student or group.
Individual Tutoring and Study Groups
I offer both individual tutoring and study groups in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.
Most tutoring clients prefer to meet once per week, but we can work out a schedule that works for you. As a homeschool parent myself, I know that sometimes the most effective thing is someone other than mom teaching. I love working with new or struggling readers, teaching math concepts, and helping bring clarity to difficult subjects.
I can help to reinforce what you’re already working on, or fully plan and teach a subject for you. Tutoring can take place in your home, a local library, or at Pine Grove Bible Church in Brooklyn Park.
My specialty is working with elementary aged students, but I love working with middle and high schoolers as well (just no high school math!).
The best time to get started with tutoring was a month ago…the next best time is now!

Looking for a study group for middle or high schoolers? Ask me about scheduling a 12 week course. I really love working with teens, and study groups are the BEST! They give students the opportunity to discuss, learn and grow in a small group setting. Study groups are especially beneficial for homeschool students because it exposes them to a class setting, keeping track of assignments and working with a group.
Possible topics include things like:
- World Religions
- Analyzing Literature
- Book study (Great Gatsby, Animal Farm, etc.)
- Environmental Science
- American Government
- U.S. Constitution
- …and more
Study groups work best with groups of 4-8 students. These are full courses, with weekly meetings (90 minutes in length), and assignments to complete at home throughout the week.
Add prep for CLEP or DSST exams (college credit granting exams) for no additional charge!
Study groups will either meet at Pine Grove Bible Church in Brooklyn Park or at your location.

One Day Events: Topic Ideas
Poetry Tea – Poetry is meant to be enjoyed, not endured. Poems paint a picture with words, some follow the rules and some don’t. This experience is equally fun for boys and girls.
Spanish Activity – Is your group studying Spanish? How about an experience crafted to practice & reinforce what students are learning, or maybe introduce new vocabulary. (Or consider scheduling a weekly Spanish class for your group of elementary students!)
Number Fun – Math is everywhere–and it doesn’t have to be scary or boring. Learn mathematic concepts with games, crafts, stories and practice.
History Alive – Engage students in activities that bring historical periods, events, or people to life. Dig deep into one area of study, or cast a wider net to understand an era.
==> Early American history , The Great Depression , World War 2 , ancient or medieval times , history in art , U.S. Presidents , inventors … the list is endless!
What are you studying? A particular book, author, country, science topic….. Whatever it is, we can craft a learning experience for your group (as long as it’s not high school math, that is). 🙂 Seasonal topics, manners, and Bible lessons available too!
More ideas to get you thinking…
In the fall ==> Autumn poetry , the history and science of popcorn , 4 common errors to watch for in science textbooks (taught from a young earth creation position)
