Local Tutoring

I have been teaching for over 20 years in public school, homeschool, individual and group settings.  Watching information sink in, a lightbulb go on, or a student overcome a hurdle never gets old.  I’d love to work with you and your family!  Please contact me today.

I’m Susan Landry, a veteran teacher and homeschool parent.  For the past decade I’ve homeschooled my own kids, tutored individual students, and led study groups on topics like government, psychology, literature, and more.  I’ve also taught just about every age from pre-school through adult education.  While teaching 2nd grade, I was voted Teacher of the Year by my school.  I thrive on the creative and would love to craft something that will educate and inspire your student or group.

Individual Tutoring

I offer individual tutoring on the north side of the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. Most tutoring clients prefer to meet once per week, but we can work out a schedule that works for you.

As a homeschool parent myself, I know that sometimes the most effective thing is someone other than mom teaching.  I love working with new or struggling readers, teaching math concepts, and helping bring clarity to difficult subjects.

I can help to reinforce what you’re already working on, or fully plan and teach a subject for you.  Tutoring can take place in your home or at a local spot like a coffee shop or library.

My specialty is working with elementary aged students, but I love working with middle and high schoolers as well (just no high school math!).

The best time to get started with tutoring was a month ago…the next best time is now!

My children did many of the different study groups with Susan, and not only did they enjoy the classes, they were better prepared for PSEO as a result! I know for a fact that along with my daughter’s hard work, these classes helped her get a 4.0 her first year. Thank you Susan!

I would highly recommend any of the study groups! They are very thorough and Susan invests much more than just learning the material; she will help your child be a better student.

Thanks, Tracy. 🙂 I so enjoy the study groups because the kids get to work with and learn from other kids, and yet because the groups are small, they don’t get lost. Teens often push themselves to do better work, I find, when they work with their peers.

I have had two children attend college prep test study groups with Susan. They both ended up scoring well on their tests. More importantly, though, is that they both enjoyed learning through these study groups. One even commented that she wanted to be a homeschool mom like Susan. I wish we had started when they were younger to have the opportunity to take more of them!

My kids participated in four study groups with Susan. Three of the subject areas had college prep tests and my kids passed all three on their first attempts. Susan’s encouragement and their testing success inspired them to do other credit tests based on other disciplines we were studying in our home school, and all were passed on the first attempts. Susan challenges her students towards higher level thinking: why did you formulate that answer, where is the evidence to support your answer. She consistently applies academics to worldview.
My kids have this to say about Susan: She uses varying approaches to teach a lesson through engaging activities and practical application. She does not follow one text book or curriculum, but crafts a unique curriculum based on a variety of sources. Her emphasis is on comprehension and meeting various learning styles. Susan asks thought provoking questions and assigns relevant homework. On the lighter side, Susan allows her students to joke around but not so much that it distracts from the lesson, and always serves good food!

Thank you so much, Janine! I so enjoyed doing study groups with your kids. It helped that they are geniuses and totally wonderful. 🙂
