Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum: Principles of Economics. Could this curriculum be the

I have always said that one of the very best things about homeschooling is that you can do what works for you and your kids.  One thing I’ve learned in teaching two boys who learn differently than I do:  It’s my job to find what works for them.

That’s what we do as homeschool parents.  We think about how our kids learn, try different things, and soon we start to see a pattern of what works and what doesn’t.

With that in mind, I’d like to tell you about an economics curriculum that I’ve had the pleasure to review and help you determine if it would be a good fit for your family.

Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum: Principles of Economics. Could this curriculum be the right one for you?

I was given a copy of this curriculum to review, and am being compensated for my time in writing this review.  But as always, all opinions are mine.

Before we dig in to this specific subject, let me tell you a little about Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum (PAC).  This curriculum was created with a mission in mind.

That mission is:

to provide for students an individualized learning system and principle-based curriculum specifically designed to address the character, academics and emotional needs of students who have been under-served or have under-performed in conventional classrooms.

PAC has courses for grades 7-12 in Science, English, Social Studies and Math (every subject is not available for every grade… for example, Math courses are available for 7th and 8th grade only).

The curriculum was written to address needs that others may miss –such as these two things.  (You can many more listed on the company’s  website) :

Addresses Special Needs:  Students, who have not performed well in traditional classrooms where content is delivered through hardback textbooks taught by teachers, have access to audio-enhanced courses that address sight limited, hearing impaired, attention deficit, and other impairments to learning.

Encourages Resolution of Trauma:  The recommended Paradigm learning system and materials are designed to stimulate students to initiate resolution of behaviors that have led to such reactions as anger, strife, depression, guilt, bitterness, and loss of hope caused by assault, abandonment, or accident.

None of this is to say that Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum is not useful or appropriate for students without those needs.  It is!  It’s a curriculum that will benefit a broad range of students.  I share these specifics with you because I’m so very impressed that they are addressing needs that are often overlooked.

High School Economics Course

The Principles and Precepts of Economics course is designed to give students insight about the history and concepts of economics.  As with most economics courses, it is a .5 (1/2) credit course..which means that it’s meant to be completed in one semester.

You are sent everything you need for the course. (I just love getting packages in the mail, don’t you?  I always feel a little giddy inside!)

Each chapter of the text is in its own soft cover booklet.  Breaking it up like this can make a large text less intimidating.  (We experienced this with one of the math curriculums we used and it helped so much!)

Each text comes with a companion activity booklet.  I really like that the text and activity books are separate.  It makes them really user-friendly and accessible.

And you receive a complete teacher’s kit as well.  This includes not only answers, but quizzes and tests, too.

Is PAC Economics Right for You?

Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum is a traditional, textbook based curriculum.  It might be a great fit for you if:

  • You love the idea of an organized, ready to go curriculum.
  • You’re a newer homeschooler and would like the guidance of everything being expertly put together for you.
  • Your student gets overwhelmed by large textbooks.
  • Having levels of accomplishment to check off motivates your student.
  • You or your child thrive on structure.
  • You are looking for an overview of the history and basic principles of Economics.

If that sounds like you, I highly recommend this PAC Economics course for your family.  One of the great things about this curriculum is that your student can use it independently or you can work together for more discussion.
