A round-up of the top 10 posts of 2016. The best recipes, homeschool tips, entertaining, herbal remedies, and more!

So here we are, all having to get used to writing 2017.  How’re you doing so far?  Me?  It’s usually at least March before I don’t have to think about it.  But I’m the girl who forgets how old I am.  (I know what year I was born, and have to calculate it every time I’m asked.)  Anyone else?

As I was compiling this list of your favorite posts of 2016, based on the number of visits to each post, I was pleased to see a variety of topics represented.  That’s what The Sparrow’s Home is all about, after all.  Our homes are made up of many different spheres.

So here they are…the Top 10 Posts of 2016

How to Plan a Disney Trip With Someone Who Doesn’t Love Disney (Yet)

October 3, 2016 by Susan 14 Comments

The best advice for planning a Disney trip with someone who doesn't love Disney (yet)

I married into the Disney family.  Don’t get me wrong..it’s not like I was anti-Disney.  I did have every single lyric to every single Little Mermaid song memorized.  What I did not do was drive around listening to the music from the Main Street Electrical Parade.  But I did date someone who did.  And I still married him.  🙂

Yes, he had the parade soundtrack.  Listen, I’m a Disney lover now, and I still can’t stomach the synthesized harpsichord music on its own. At the parade—love it!  On its own, Baroque Hoedown just doesn’t do it for me.

I also didn’t set foot in a Disney park until I was in college, and Greg and I went to California to visit his parents.  And if I’m being totally honest…I was underwhelmed.  My relationship with Disney parks began as an appreciation, grew into a full fledged crush, and now I’m enamored.

August 9, 2016 by Susan 15 Comments

This is the ultimate guide to adding learning to your Disney vacation.  Literature, history, geography, science, and more.  You might be surprised how many educational opportunities there are!

Are you looking for ways to incorporate your trip to Disney World into your studies. Ideas for literature, history, and loads more to homeschool Disney!

Incorporating our real life into our schooling has always been important to us, like when we took an impromptu trip to Texas to spend a few weeks, and the ways we’ve learned about our state with fun first day of school field trips.  So deciding to homeschool Disney World was a no-brainer!

Studying about an amusement park, you ask?  Spending valuable school time learning about a cartoon Mouse?

If that’s what you’re thinking, you are in for a treat!

Disney Princess Bridal Shower

May 9, 2016 by Susan 14 Comments

Hosting a Disney Princess Bridal Shower is not the same as a little girl's princess party. Ideas here for a shower with a nod to Disney's princesses.

Having two sons is fantastic.  But I do miss out on a lot of the ‘girly’ things.  So when I get an opportunity to do it, I do it big!  Especially when it involves things I love – in this case:  themed entertaining and my niece.

A Disney Princess bridal shower.  Yes, please!

We are definitely a Disney family.  My husband has been a huuuuuge Dis-nerd for as long as I’ve known him.  And my appreciation has grown significantly over the years for all things Disney.  We even focused our homeschool studies around a trip to Disney World several years ago.  Awe-some!

First Impression

I love for guests to get a little taste of what’s in store for them even before they come inside.  So just outside the front door, they were greeted by this “Be Our Guest” sign.

11 Disney Live Action Remakes

April 28, 2016 by Susan 12 Comments

11 Disney Live Action Remakes...Including Beauty and the Beast, Cruella, Mulan, Dumbo and more

Did you see last year’s live action version of Cinderella?  It was a lovely rendition of Disney’s animated classic.

We really enjoyed it, with one only one complaint – We would’ve preferred less cleavage.  Modesty is something we appreciate.  And notice.

Nonetheless, the movie sold over 24 million tickets, so clearly we weren’t the only ones that enjoyed it.

Well, Disney has taken notice, and has plans in the works to release a number of live action remakes of other animated films.

There are a couple out this year, even.  Jungle Book was released on April 15 and Alice Through the Looking Glass on May 27.

It’ll be awhile before many of these come out, but it’s definitely a trend to watch for.

11 Disney Live Action Remakes...Emma Watson will play Belle in Beauty and the BeastThis is already in post production, and the cast looks stellar. Harry Potter star Emma Watson is playing the heroine Belle.  More of the cast includes:  Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Ian McKellan as Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Josh Gad as Le Fou, and Dan Stevens as the Beast.  (If you watched Downton Abbey, you’ll recognize Dan Stevens as the actor who played Matthew Crawley).
