When the summer sun gets hot, it's time to make this DIY Cooling Spray. Cooling and moisturizing, perfect help for sunburn!

I love summer.  I love the freedom it brings to our schedule, and all the green, the summer camps and the warmth that soaks everything.

But I haaaaaate being hot and sweaty.  The hottest I’ve ever been was in August in Louisiana getting into a car with vinyl seats that had been shut up for hours in the sun.  I’m pretty sure if anyone had touched me I would have gone clinically insane.

I could’ve used this cooling spray.  I would’ve paid big for this cooling spray.

This DIY Cooling Spray is made with aloe vera, witch hazel and essential oils.

And not only is it cooling for those hot and sweaty days, but it is an amazing soother for sunburned skin.

The Beatles sang, “Here comes the sun.  Here comes the sun and I say, it’s all right.”  But for anyone who’s ever had sunburn, we know that it’s not always all right.

What’s so great about this cooling spray?

It is made from just 4 ingredients…so easy!  Let me tell you about what each one brings to the cooling party.

This DIY Cooling Spray is made with aloe vera, witch hazel and essential oils.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel helps reduce inflammation and can help prevent peeling and itching.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe is also anti-inflammatory and has over 75 different nutrients.  It is moisturizing, and acts to protect skin, accelerating the healing of burns. (source)

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is soothing, relaxing, and is a well-known burn remedy.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint has a high percentage of menthol.  Menthol apparently has the ability to trick receptors in our brain into thinking that the body is cooler than it really is, especially the part that is in contact with the menthol (in this case, your hot, burned skin).  (source)

Check out the recipe below to make this easy spray.  To use it, just spritz it over your skin and let it dry, don’t wipe it off.  For added cooling, store it in the fridge.  Ahhhh…

Are you ready for the heat?

“Sun, Sun, Sun…here it comes.”

I buy all of my essential oils at Rocky Mountain Oils

I have to have this in my home. My family members tend to get hot easily especially the kids as they run around almost every chance they get except when they are scolded. I have to try this soon! It will be very helpful especially in summer! Thanks for this!
