Your roadmap to finding joy and purpose in life from a 103-year-old doctor

July 2, 2025 by Susan Leave a Comment

Find out who you are, pay attention to how you’re called to grow & change, and learn to listen to what makes your heart sing.

Your roadmap to finding joy and purpose in life from a 103-year-old doctor

Do you ever look back at small moments and realize that they pointed you to something wonderful? I caught part of an interview last year with this sweet, adorable old woman who completely captivated me. After watching a short while, I realized that she was also incredibly knowedgeable, kind and had a wisdom and a peace that I wanted.

I ordered her book, The Well-Lived Life,  that day. And after devouring it, I have gone back and pored over it several times since then. It’s the kind of advice that, at least for me, strikes me but doesn’t always stick immediately. Reminders are good.

Going back this week to drink from this well of wisdom once again, I thought it was time to share. Maybe something will strike you too, though I know it won’t be for everyone. If it’s not for you, that’s okay too. I’d love to know what wisdom motivates you to be the best version of yourself, to live and experience all that life has to offer.

Tinctures: One of the Most Effective Ways to Take Herbal Medicine

Tinctures: One of the most effective ways to take herbal medicine

What are your thoughts on herbal teas?

I like them okay.  And if I’m in just the right mood, they can be a soothing and wonderful way to reap the benefits of herbal remedies.  More often than not, though, I am not in just the right mood.  Or I simply don’t want to take the time to brew and sip a cup.

Enter tinctures.

Tinctures are so easy to make and take that I kind of take for granted that not everyone is familiar with them.  Tincture is a weird sounding word, isn’t it?  Usually, when I talk about them with people I simply call them ‘herbal medicine’.

This Tea is for Ladies: Raspberry Leaf & Peppermint Tea

May 22, 2017 by Susan 4 Comments

This Tea is for Ladies. You could experience less cramping, lighter flow, and more regulated periods. Hand blended organic raspberry and peppermint leaf.

Spring means rain.  For the past two hours I’ve been watching the sky darken, begin to rumble, and now it’s pouring outside my window.  Heavy rain, and dark!  Aside from the occasional lightening, that is.

Ladies, we all have stormy times too, don’t we?  We may miss some of the signs of the clouds rolling in, but once the rain starts, there’s no denying it.  Or am I the only one whose family gets a few days of thunder and lightening every so often?  (I kid you not, as soon as I finished typing that, a HUGE crack of thunder pealed…spooky!)

I have written before about how much I love my raspberry leaf during my stormy times.  Ever since I’ve started developing an interest in herbal remedies, my family has been my guinea pigs.  Since everyone’s body is different,  various remedies may be more or less effective.  Some things that we’ve tried have not seemed to make a difference at all, some have been life changing.

Raspberry leaf has been life changing for me.  Along with this Herbal Salve, it is the thing I share the most with folks.

Vitamin B for Brain Health

May 15, 2017 by Susan Leave a Comment

Vitamin B is great for overall brain health, and has specific benefits that can help manage anxiety and depression.

Are you a worrier?  I come from a long line of worriers.  Although I think all kids have irrational fears at times, I was the kid who didn’t sleep on my side until about 5th grade because I was sure someone would stab me in the back if I did.  Yeah, weird, I know.

As we go through life, as ladies, we have different seasons of hormonal changes.  (We learn that in middle school health class.)  What we aren’t often taught is that those seasons of change can have big effects on our mental health.
