Simple and amazing summer lemonade

July 22, 2019 by Susan 3 Comments

I make this easy homemade lemonade all summer long.  It’s so simple, but I get asked for the recipe frequently.  Tart.  Sweet.  Summer in a glass.

Simple and amazing homemade lemonade

Let’s clear one thing up right at the start:  When I say homemade lemonade, I do not mean squeezing your own lemons.

I mean, theoretically you could.  But you really don’t need to, and in my book, this falls in the same arena as making my own pizza dough and pie crusts.  I could, but when it’s so convenient to buy Trader Joe’s handy and delicious versions, why would I?

Honey Lemon Soother

January 24, 2017 by Susan 15 Comments

Honey lemon soother recipe.

Honey and lemon.  What could be wrong with that?  I discovered this magical elixir last winter, and then kind of forgot it over the warmer months.  But as the chill spread this year, it all came back to me.

The perfect hot drink for a cold winter night.  Soothing when you’re beginning to feel under the weather.  No caffeine like coffee or tea, so it’s just right for an evening sip.

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

October 4, 2016 by Susan 14 Comments

A collection of pumpkin recipes from classically traditional to creatively original.

I’m so old I remember when pumpkin was something you carved, not something you put in your coffee.  I do like a pumpkin spice latte, though, so there will be no complaining from me!  I wanted to put together a collection of pumpkin recipes for you to try this fall…er, should I say, pumpkin spice season.

I looked for recipes that I plan to try, or have already made.  I’ll be sure to let you know which ones I’ve already road tested for you.

Easy Summer Lemonade and My Costco Shopping List

June 13, 2016 by Susan 2 Comments

I always have these staples on hand from Costco. Bonus! The easiest homemade lemonade recipe ever!

Summer is here and that means it’s lemonade time!  During the cooler months, I buy an extra gallon of raw milk and keep homemade chocolate milk in the fridge.  But in the summer, I like to lighten things up.  And so lemonade makes its appearance.

It’s so easy to make from scratch, and it tastes so much better than the powdered mix.  Try it, you won’t go back!

Lemon juice is one of the things I always stock up on when I hit Costco.  I thought I’d share some of the other things that are Costco stock up staples at our house.

Girls Movie Night Menu: Gone With the Wind

April 21, 2016 by Susan 11 Comments

Girls movie night menu themed to Gone With the Wind....and a recipe for real Southern sweet tea.

Do you love a party with a theme as much as I do?  There’s just something about it that tickles me.  It doesn’t have to be big or elaborate…sometimes it’s just a nod.

Some time ago, my niece joined us on a road trip.  She made a discovery about our family.  She found out that, much to the chagrin of our boys – my husband and I enjoy listening to songs from musicals when we travel.  Few things can keep you alert while driving better than singing (in character, of course), “I Dreamed a Dream,” or “Who’s That Guy?”  Yes, we like everything from Les Miserables to Grease 2.

(Driving through Oklahoma was especially fun for Greg and I…not so much for the boys.)  Oklahoma – OK!

And thus started our discussion about all of the musicals that my niece hadn’t yet seen.  We decided right then and there that a Girls Movie Night must happen.

Since then, a group of young ladies, and some not as young ladies, have gathered at my house to watch movies that some of us consider classics.

It started with musicals specifically, but has branched into other genres.
