Food for Thought #35

Let's share what we've been perusing this week. From household tips, to spiritual growth...and everything in between!

We did an activity in a class at church not too long ago in which we looked at a page of motivational and inspiring quotes.  As we read through them, we examined if they reflected Biblical wisdom.  I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear, most did not.  It’s no shock to say that our feelings do not mirror truth a whole lot of the time.  God’s wisdom almost always runs counter to what feels right to our fallen human hearts.

So whatever you’re reading, take the time to compare what feels right to what the Bible says is right.

Here’s what I’m reading:

You are not enough (And why that’s a good thing!) … at Cultivate My Heart.  ‘You are enough.’  You see that phrase everywhere, it seems.  And while I understand the philosophy behind it (empowerment to live to your fullest potential), it’s always bothered me.  It is simply not a Biblical statement.  But the truth is even better!

If Christian moms looked for guidance as much as encouragement kids would have a deeper faith … at Natasha Crain.   Ain’t that the truth?!  Most material aimed at wives and mothers contains some form of the message that ‘it’s not your fault’.  What we need is not often what our egos desire.  This reminded me of an article I read awhile back with possibly the best title ever:  Not all parents are the same.  Some are better.  (haha…we all think it, don’t we?)  Be sure, BTW, to check out the ‘popular posts’ tab at the top of Natasha’s blog for loads of ideas for teaching a Biblical worldview to your kids.  It doesn’t just happen, folks.

When where you are is not where you hoped to be … at Stacey Pardoe.   Anyone else find it easy to get caught up in the doing of life and forget to take reflective moments?  Take the time to ask yourself some big questions and let God speak into your life.

What if we all just kept it simple? … at One Grateful Girl.  Encouragement to focus on the basics, loving our spouse and family well, serving God simply.  A simple message with a big truth.

8 habits of a gracious wife … at Jolene Engle.  I found myself saying, “Yes, right!” after every single one of these.  Good reminders and challenges to speak and act with wisdom and kindness.

“She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Proverbs 31:26

Practical Ways to Show Respect to Your Husband … at Of the Hearth.  Some wives may struggle to feel respect for their husbands.  Others may feel tremendous respect for their husbands and still not know how to show it tangibly.  This article applies equally to either.  Solid, tangible ideas.

What has been challenging you lately?

*A brief disclaimer…I found these particular articles read-worthy.  That doesn’t mean that I agree with or advocate everything on the site on which individual posts appear.
