Food for Thought #9

Let's share what we've been perusing this week. From household tips, to spiritual growth...and everything in between!

We’re here to share and grow together.  Everyone has politics on the brain right now, I know it’s where my online reading has been lately.  Having said that, you might be surprised how this ‘Food for Thought’ ended up!

I would love to hear what you think, and see what you’ve had open on your desktop this week.

——————————————————————

With the election last week, I’ve been reading a lot of political opinions, thoughts and perspectives.  I had about 8 really great articles ready to share here, and when I re-read the post just now, I realized something.  I’m kind of sick of reading about this.

So I deleted them and am replacing them with other, equally interesting and thought-provoking articles that are NOT about the election.  You’ll still see some political thoughts, but not election specific.

As you sort through all of the election comments you may be seeing in social media, keep this quote by Thomas Jefferson in mind:

“I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend.”

Here’s what I’ve been reading:

Barronelle Stutzman:  My Case Should Concern Everyone … at the Spokesman-Review    Barronelle Stutzman was sued by the state attorney general for refusing to provide flowers for a same-sex wedding. The Washington Supreme Court was scheduled to hear oral arguments in her case this week.

How Can You Have an Accidental Abortion? … at The Long Way to Go    I was crying by the end of this article.  It is an honest and heartbreaking story, but also a clear look into the abortion industry.  It’s not graphic in any way, but touching and a call to grace and mercy.

To Your Health … at Regie’s Blog    A family’s experience of being offered “poster family” status for Obamacare, examining the pros and cons of Universal Healthcare, and how a 9-year-old’s inclination might be the answer.  (This article is much more interesting than my description makes it sound.)

UMich Law School Cancels Trump Trauma Play-Dough Event After Mass Ridicule … at Milo.   More than a comment on the election, this is typical of what is going on on college campuses.  Those of us who are not in that environment may have a hard time believing it, but I’m seeing more and more of junk like this.  I love this quote:

Dr. Sheth describes her approach to psychology as “integrative” and drawing upon “relational-psychodynamic, existential-phenomenological, and indigenous mental health traditions.”   It’s unclear where Play-Doh fits into that.

In Defense of the Electoral College … at The Washington Post     I never really understood how big of a deal the electoral college was/is.  It was just this confusing thing that “was”.  I’ve heard a lot of people calling for its repeal, so I’ve been doing some reading on it.  Interesting stuff!

Do You Understand the Electoral System? … at Prager University     I really love Prager University videos.  They are short (about 5 minutes), visually engaging, and easy to follow.  Plus, they are given by experts in the field.

9 Ways to Extend Grace to Others … at Above the Waves   Timely advice reminds us that God has shown us abundant grace, and we are to extend the same to others.  Biblical examples and tangible ideas to be a blessing.

What have you been reading this week?

*A brief disclaimer…I found these particular articles read-worthy.  That doesn’t mean that I concur with or advocate everything on the site on which individual posts appear.

Thank you pointing out these articles. So much sadness surrounds us, we need more people following God.
