Board games to check out if you’re looking for two player games

June 2, 2022 by Susan 6 Comments

A list of board games that are just as much fun with two players as they are with a larger group. Beautiful artwork and quick to learn!

Since becoming empty nesters, my game-loving husband has been on a little bit of a buying spree. He’s picked up several games that are just as fun with two players as they are with a larger group.

These are not the type of games that I affectionately call ‘dork games’. Those are the ones he plays with the fellas. The ones that have lots of mythical creatures, frequently involve an intricate storyline, and the occasional use of their best accent.

No thank you.

But I am happy to accept his invitation for a game night when it involves one of these winners.

The latest board games we can’t stop playing

September 9, 2019 by Susan 2 Comments

Our latest list of board games are clever, fun, and kind of addictive!  Two of them are great two-person games, too, which are perfect for at-home date nights.

Four games.

All of them are strategy games, although that’s where the similarities end.  They really couldn’t be more different.

Before our boys left for college, we got Camel Up and Decrypto and loved them so much we played as much as we could before they left.

Since we’ve become empty nesters, my husband picked up Santorini and Quacks of Quedlinburg and it’s so much fun to have new games that the two of us can play together.

I can’t wait to tell you about these.  You are definitely going to find something to love here!

Our new favorite party game is simply fun…and different every time you play

December 31, 2018 by Susan 2 Comments

If you like Apples-to-Apples, this fun party game may be your new favorite! You use books to find the perfect fit to a prompt. Prepare to laugh…a lot!

We get a new family game every year for Christmas.  And this year, I am proud to say…we found a real winner!  My friend Kay from Heart to Heart Homeschooling recommended this one to me and I knew it would be a hit.  My husband wasn’t sure, but after our first time playing he looked right at me and said, “I was wrong, that was fantastic!”

Let your geek flag fly. Dragon Con for families.

September 10, 2018 by Susan 4 Comments

How many places can you see Thanos, the Dread Pirate Roberts, Tinker Bell and zombies all at once?  Not many, I’ll tell you that.

Something called Dragon Con is not something that would garner my attention normally.  Even though I live with three guys who are into games with lots of orcs, wizards and superheroes, and we watch movies with…well, lots of orcs, wizards and superheroes….I can handle only so much of the nerd-dom.

I’ve known about Dragon Con for a long time.  Some of the organizers are friends of ours and Greg went a couple of times when we lived in Atlanta.  Still, not something I ever thought I’d be interested in attending myself.  I mean, a sci-fi convention is a bit much for me.  Little did I know…

The Tradition of a Family Game for Christmas

December 11, 2017 by Susan 2 Comments

Family games for Christmas are a great idea! Links to lots of games your older kids and teens will love. Start a new tradition this Christmas!

Start a tradition of a family game for Christmas!

Do you have a family gift tradition?  Some families open new pajamas on Christmas eve.  Some give a family movie or have a tradition of hot chocolate in new mugs.

We are a game playing family, and so we like to wrap up a new family game to open on Christmas.  It started when the boys were quite young.  Hungry Hungry Hippos was the first game made a family gift.  Over the years our games have grown up with the boys.

If you’re looking for some unique ideas for a game for your family, I’ve compiled a round up here to give you some ideas.  While many of these would be great for upper elementary aged kids and older, we got them because they’re games that both teens and adults enjoy playing.

Brain Boosting Word Games

February 6, 2017 by Susan 10 Comments

These word games are challenging and fun. Click here to read more!

I love telling you about new games that I discover.  My family knows that there are certain rules which must be met in order for a game to pass muster.  Word games are usually my go-to when I get to pick what we’re going to play.

Often times, games have a digital counterpart.  These are usually not terribly tempting for me.  My iPad is used mainly for tutoring, in orthodontist waiting rooms, and occasionally in the ladies room.  (Shhhh)  Every once in awhile I’ll pull it out to play a game to kill time, but not so often that I am on the lookout for new games.

I’ve already shared a few of our favorite word games before.  Today, I want to tell you about two things:  One digital game, an app, that I can’t get enough of as well as a card game that my family has been playing quite a lot of.
