Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

October 4, 2016 by Susan 14 Comments

A collection of pumpkin recipes from classically traditional to creatively original.

I’m so old I remember when pumpkin was something you carved, not something you put in your coffee.  I do like a pumpkin spice latte, though, so there will be no complaining from me!  I wanted to put together a collection of pumpkin recipes for you to try this fall…er, should I say, pumpkin spice season.

I looked for recipes that I plan to try, or have already made.  I’ll be sure to let you know which ones I’ve already road tested for you.

Chewy Cookie Bars: Your New Most Used Recipe

September 27, 2016 by Susan 6 Comments

One basic recipe…endless variations. These cookie bars are easy and delicious! And they’re made with ingredients you have in your pantry right now.

These cookie bars are a simple treat to whip up for guests.

I bake quite a bit.  We have study groups at our house once a week during the school year, and part of hosting means providing a snack for the group.  It’s amazing how much more kids engage when there are cookies or muffins on the table!  I also like to offer a treat when we have guests over, and sometimes I bake just to be a nice mom.

I have one recipe card in my cabinet that I don’t even put in my recipe box, because I use it so much.  It’s really more a list of ingredients than a recipe.  It’s faded and has dried crusty bits on it.  Have you got a recipe like that?

These fudgy brownies are the perfect canvas for add ins and customization. Nuts, chips, candies, frosting..the list is endless. And they’re SO easy!

These fudgy brownies are the perfect blank canvas for add ins and customization. Nuts, chips, candies, frosting..the list is endless. And they're SO easy!

I’ve made a million different kinds of brownies over the years.  OK, not really a million…but at least 15.  And I can honestly say that I don’t recall a brownie I didn’t like.  I mean…chocolate.

For the last few years, though, this brownie recipe has been my one and only.  It’s kind of a conglomeration of a few recipes I’ve made.  It’s quick and easy, chewy and fudgy.  All things I look for in a brownie.

And it is the perfect blank canvas.

Ooey Gooey Triple Chip Skillet Cookie

August 10, 2016 by Susan 8 Comments

An ooey, gooey dessert that you mix in the same skillet you bake it in! I make mine with semisweet, white, and milk chocolate chips.

An ooey, gooey dessert that you mix in the same skillet you bake it in!

Just last night my husband sidled up to me after dinner and sweetly asked, “Any chance you’ve got plans to bake something sweet tonight?”

“Well,” I said, “I could make a skillet cookie.  But we don’t have any ice cream, and you kind of need ice cream with—.”

Before I could finish the reply came from the other room.  Our 16 year old son said, “I’ll go get ice cream.”  Oh the joys of having a kid who drives!

This dessert may give my dulce de leche bars a run for their money in the melty, ooey, gooey yumminess department.  But the best thing about this is how easy it is.  You make it all in the skillet!

Recipes That Use Up A Lot of Eggs (Bonus Pudding Recipe!)

June 2, 2016 by Susan 35 Comments

A collection of recipes for how to use up eggs.  Desserts with eggs, dinner recipes with eggs, you name it!  Use up an abundance of eggs in delicious ways.  This collection of recipes will give you lots of options for when you find yourself with too many eggs on your hands.  Sweet, savory, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and perfect for customizing to your taste.  Plus, a bonus recipe for the best pudding ever!

Here's a list of recipes to help you use up an abundance of eggs. Tips on freezing eggs, too.

Backyard chickens are fantastic entertainment.  They run like little old ladies holding their skirts up, and they always assume another hen has something better than what they’ve got.

Aside from all this free entertainment, they also provide us with a multitude of fresh eggs.

I frequently find myself looking for recipes that use a lot of eggs.

Today I thought I’d share some of the best ones I’ve found and tend to go back to time and again.

6 Bread Recipes & a Quick Reference Guide to Make Dinnertime Easier

6 Bread Recipes & a Quick Reference Guide to Make Dinnertime Easier **FREE printable

Busy moms all over the world have, probably for millennia, come up with ways to make their lives easier.  Call them lifehacks, timesavers, or shortcuts – we all have them.

I’m a pretty simple gal when it comes to meal planning.  My formula for dinner tends to include a main dish, a vegetable, and a starch.  Sometimes I’ll go a little crazy and make an extra side dish, but those are pretty special days.

Many times the starch takes the form of some kind of home baked bread.  Some time back, I started writing my most used recipes on sticky notes and putting them up inside my cabinet door so I could reference them easily.

About a year ago I typed them all up on one sheet and taped it up.  It looked a little neater, and it saved me from having to keep re-sticking my sticky notes.
