Does your family sit around the dinner table and talk about what you’ve read or heard throughout the day? Just us? We frequently find ourselves discussing something that came across one of our social media feeds that day, whether a news bit or something funny.
I would love to hear what you think, and see what you’ve had open on your desktop this week.
Here’s what I’ve been reading:
How to Invest in the Life of a Younger Friend – at Melanie Redd. Because I was writing this week about teaching your kids to pray, this article on discipleship caught my eye. It reiterated many of the thoughts I’ve been having and gives tangible ways to consciously mentor another.
To the Woman Who Invented Pooping (& All Other Internet Trolls) – at Carly on Purpose. This post made me belly laugh…like when she says, “All sarcasm aside, what’s wrong with you?” As funny as this was, it makes a real point for all of us about kindness, thinking before speaking, and the impact of our words.
Why I Clean Up My House For You – at Just Plain Living. I am all about being real, and people who have been to my house know that I am far from a ‘neatnik’. Having said that, I cringe whenever I see those little signs that say things like, “Pardon the mess, we’re far to busy playing with our kids like good parents and can’t be bothered to keep a marginally clean home” (Maybe I took some liberties with the wording on that). But seriously – are being an involved parent and keeping a decently clean home mutually exclusive? I appreciate her thoughts in this article. And, I saw that she wrote a (massive) cookbook that will likely be on my Christmas list this year. Love it!
A Cabin Full of Food: (Mostly a cookbook)
How to Cook – at Down to Earth. In the same vein as the above article, Rhonda lifts homemaking to a place of importance. And I am utterly enamored with the way she writes. It’s like a snuggly blanket of comfort. I love what she says here, “The small, never-ending tasks that make up my days may look basic and mundane but the true significance of this type of work is evident in what it produces.”
18 Spectacularly Wrong Apocalyptic Predictions Made Around the Time of the First Earth Day – at AEI. This caught my eye because it reminded me of the study we did on Environmental Science a couple of years ago. As part of our study, we watched Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and then went through a document that points out all of the misleading, skewed, and flat out lies in the video. (You can find the materials we used for this study here).
How to Truly Love Your Spouse – at Focus on the Family. This past week my husband and I celebrated 21 years of marriage. If you’re married, you know that marriage is hard. But it’s so worth the effort and work. My guy posted this to his Facebook wall on our special day:
A lot of you may think I’m generally a really nice guy, but what you may not know is that I can be a real jerk sometimes, even to my wife. Most of you know my amazing wife, and what an incredible woman she is. What you may not know is that she is not always the easiest to live with.
However, today we celebrate 21 years of marriage together, IN SPITE OF the issues I mentioned above. Many of you know our marriage has faced some difficult challenges, and yet, with God’s help, we have persevered and overcome. Praise God. May I encourage you all to expect difficult times in ANY marriage relationship. Expect them, but also know how to work through them. If you receive regular training in your work setting, or have to retake a driver’s test or anything like that, then you must also realize that regular work on your marriage, to keep it strong and healthy, should also be a normal, expected requirement.
Susan, thank you for putting up with me for the past 21 years, and agreeing to work things out when times were tough, so that we could get to today, and next week, and next year, and so on.
I love you!!
I am truly one lucky lady.
Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much for the shout out! 🙂 Following the trackback means I get to discover a new site and I like what I’m seeing here. To show my appreciation, I’m gonna go hunting for something on your site to share on my Saturday Round Up. It’s much like what you do here, but email only, and it’s very popular with my readers.
Again, so nice to “meet” you and thanks for the mention.
Marie
