Adding the words “kid friendly” to your kale chips recipe isn’t fooling anyone

May 7, 2018 by Susan 11 Comments

There’s no one definition of a picky eater, but I think we can safely agree that plain wins the day.  These simple recipes tend to go over well and can be customized.

Do you have picky eaters?

If so then you, like me, are skeptical of lists that claim to be “kid friendly”.  It’s especially offensive to click a link promising “10 recipes your picky eaters will devour” only to find it full of recipes with ingredients many adults I know wouldn’t even eat.

Chickpeas, really?

Movie ideas for your next girls movie night

Movie ideas for your next girls movie night

Do you prioritize girl time, or are you lucky to squeeze some in on rare occasions?  Maybe you’re like me and you try be good at scheduling time, but most often end up falling into the latter category.

One thing I try to do sorta semi-regularly is schedule girls movie nights with some of the younger ladies I know.  Maybe I see it as my job to introduce them to films they might not check out on their own.  Maybe it makes me feel younger.  Mostly, I like the chance to watch some of my favorites again.

And it only breaks my heart a little when they don’t love a movie as much as I do.  (Gone With the Wind, I’ll always love you).

Chicken Pot Pie 2 Ways

April 23, 2018 by Susan 5 Comments

Chicken Pot Pie with one crust or two crusts, baked in an iron skillet or in a pie plate. Same easy recipe, same homey comfort food.

Chicken Pot Pie with one crust or two crusts, baked in an iron skillet or in a pie plate. Same easy recipe, same homey comfort food.

Did you grow up on those little, frozen, pucks of pot pie like I did?  In college they were a staple, and when Greg and I first got married, they made quick weekend lunches.

Then I learned how to make it myself, and I haven’t bought one since.

Not only is this probably my favorite use of Thanksgiving leftovers (beside sandwiches…there’s just something special about a post-Thanksgiving turkey sandwich, isn’t there?) but one of my top comfort foods in general.  It’s on my list of meals to take to friends in need, too.

Food for Thought #35

April 16, 2018 by Susan Leave a Comment

Let's share what we've been perusing this week. From household tips, to spiritual growth...and everything in between!

We did an activity in a class at church not too long ago in which we looked at a page of motivational and inspiring quotes.  As we read through them, we examined if they reflected Biblical wisdom.  I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear, most did not.  It’s no shock to say that our feelings do not mirror truth a whole lot of the time.  God’s wisdom almost always runs counter to what feels right to our fallen human hearts.

So whatever you’re reading, take the time to compare what feels right to what the Bible says is right.

Ultimate Bundle of Homemaking Goodies (And Yes, That’s the Real Price!)

April 9, 2018 by Susan Leave a Comment

Ultimate bundle for the ultimate career…sounds about right to me!

I rarely use blog posts to share deals or sales, but this one is too good not to tell you about.  I know you are going to love this as much as I do.

It’s a digital resource library, and it includes products like eBooks, online courses, printables and planners, audio files, membership sites and more, crammed into one unbelievable collection, for a ridiculously low price. Ultimate Bundles creates a lot of different bundles, but this particular one has been running for 6 years (with brand new products each year!), it’s their most popular bundle EVER and over 100,000 women have picked one up since 2013.

Winning in marriage starts with knowing it’s a team event

April 2, 2018 by Susan 6 Comments

Marriage simply doesn’t work if we don’t learn how to work together. Being intentional in building a strong and healthy marriage is the key. Helpful resources, and advice from long-married couples.

Marriage is a team event--That's key information to remember if you're going for the gold!

Once every four years, we find ourselves using phrases like “Lutz” and “triple Salchow” …during the Winter Olympics when we all become experts in sports we watch exactly once every four years.

Imagine if figure skating pairs got on the ice and each did their own routine.  It would never work.  Not only would they never medal, but they’d be laughed off the ice.  Everyone knows, that’s not how paired figure skating works.

It’s not how marriage works either, y’all.

And yet that’s kind of how we go about things day after day and then we wonder why things fall apart.

Marriage is Hard

Marriage can be difficult.  No doubt.  But most couples who have been married into the decades will tell you that it’s worth it.

The other side of difficult is worth it.
