Individual Cakes in Jars

March 26, 2018 by Susan 4 Comments

These adorable individual cakes in jars are the perfect dessert because they are quick to mix up and bake while you eat. Top with a rich, chocolate ganache and your family will swoon.

Do you usually make dessert for dinner?  Unless we have guests, I don’t.  But every once in a while it’s nice to surprise my guys with a sweet treat, and these cuties are one of my favorites.

Each person getting their own little cake in a jar…adorable!  The cuteness is lost on the boys, but being the only girl in the house, I am used to that.

They love them because they’re totally delish.

Food for Thought #34

March 19, 2018 by Susan 4 Comments

Let's share what we've been perusing this week. From household tips, to spiritual growth...and everything in between!

I noticed in my stash of articles to check out that I had a bunch saved that could be grouped under the heading ‘advice for young people’.  Mostly pertaining to friendships and dating, preparing for marriage..with some general advice thrown in.

What you won’t find here, I should warn, are lists of 5 things to look for in a potential husband/wife.  Can I say…I haaaaate those posts.  I’ll tell you why after I pose this one simple question:  How many of you were spiritually mature, had it all together, and were a titan of the faith when you were 19-22 years of age.

Listen, I get that we want to encourage young people to look for a spouse who is a God-honoring person, someone who is Biblically like-minded and seeking to live a life for the Lord.  Those things matter.  A lot!  But it seems to me that these lists describe someone who is in their 40’s and has lived a life of faith and growth, not someone who is at the start of their path of Spiritual growth.

And there’s my 2 cents.

Here’s what I’ve been reading:

At its heart, looking for closure is really just asking ‘Why’?

March 12, 2018 by Susan 16 Comments

When you’re looking for closure, is it possible to heal without having your questions answered; and are there times when it’s better to pass on the chance to ask them even if it comes?

At its heart, looking for closure is really just asking, 'Why'?

If you had the chance to seek closure about a difficult situation from your past, is there anything that would cause you to pass it up?

I’m not sure where this idea of ‘closure’ even came from.  Is it just a cop-out to avoid dealing with hurt, to escape taking responsibility for our own healing?  Or could it be that, deep down, we just want to know why.

Cheesy Potato Soup…Yes Please

March 5, 2018 by Susan 10 Comments

Making a big pot of this warm and comforting cheesy potato soup is easier than you might think.

Fast and simple cheesy potato soup. This is the perfect comfort food!

I have been making this soup since 1991.  (Not this exact pot of soup, that would be weird….and gross).  When I moved to Atlanta to go to college, my mom send me with a stack of recipes.  This creamy, cheesy, potato soup soon made its way to the top of the stack.  And once I made it, it became a regular.

It’s so simple, and can be easily doubled for a crowd.

I made a big pot this week to take for lunch with some dear friends, and of course had to leave a bowl for Greg.  It is rich and filling, but still made better with a dip of some fresh baked bread, if you ask me.

6 Reasons to do your CLEP prep with Study.com

I was compensated for my time in writing this review.  As always, all opinions are my own.

Do you have things in your life that you just can’t shut up about?  Yeah, CLEP testing is one of those things for me.  I was sitting in the waiting room waiting for an oil change recently and found myself telling someone about earning college credit by exam.

Earning credits like this has made a gigantic difference in the way we homeschool high school and are doing college.  So when I discovered Study.com’s CLEP test prep product, I was a little ga-ga.

Let's share what we've been perusing this week. From household tips, to spiritual growth...and everything in between!

This is going to be a ‘current events’ kind of Food for Thought.  News from the 2018 Winter Olympics as well as other moments that made me say ‘Whaaaaat?’ are compiled here for your perusal.  Some will hopefully make you laugh a little, others may make you do a double take and shake your head.

Enjoy!
