Food for Thought #25

July 6, 2017 by Susan Leave a Comment

Let's share what we've been perusing this week. From household tips, to spiritual growth...and everything in between!

I hope you were able to do something fun for the 4th.  We got back from our trip to Family Camp in Indiana last Friday, spent the weekend doing laundry and grocery shopping, and then went up to my parent’s cabin to pick up my sweet Scout and enjoy the holiday.  Getting back into the daily grind is tough, but having a day off in the middle of a week makes me feel like a kid again, you too?

What have you done with your freedom?

July 3, 2017 by Susan 2 Comments

What have you done with your freedom?

If you’re a Christian and an American, you will (as Ricky Ricardo used to say) “have some ‘splaining to do” one day.

Bibles?  You can own, read, give away or sell as many as you’d like.  We have the ability to talk about our faith, write about our faith, broadcast our faith.  And even as we can see those rights being infringed upon so often these days, the truth is if we are not growing God’s kingdom…we really have no excuse.

Cheesy Chicken Roll Ups: A Kids Recipe Made By One of the Cutest [Video]

June 28, 2017 by Susan Leave a Comment

This is an easy kids recipe. Older kids could make this on their own, and it's simple enough for little to help with too!

When I got word that my Chick-fil-A Mom Panel was being tasked with creating recipes for kids I knew just the little sweetie I wanted to help me make mine.  After all, my kids are teenagers, and one is officially an adult (yikes!) so they don’t really qualify to help me out with ‘kids’ recipes.  If you have littles, like my friend Scarlett here, you’ll want to work with them on this recipe.  But if your kids are a bit older, this is totally something they could do on their own.

Dads, Your Presence Matters More than Your Presents

June 26, 2017 by Susan 2 Comments

You don't have to have it all figured out to invest in your kids. God will bless your efforts.

If you’re looking for advice for being a good dad, there are a lot of books out there.  A quick search on Amazon brings up titles like How to Father, 10 Secrets Every Father Should Know, and the classic Dude, You’re Going to Be a Dad.

But can I tell you…no matter what parenting technique you subscribe to, unless you are a total jerk, you’re going to do just fine as long as you remember that your kids need your presence.

Not want

ask for

seek out

…need.

Can it feel awkward sometimes?  Yes.  Will you be doing things you wouldn’t pick to do.  Absolutely.  Might you fail miserably in trying to connect with them.  Quite possibly.  But God will bless your effort.

Food for Thought #24

Let's share what we've been perusing this week. From household tips, to spiritual growth...and everything in between!

Having a newly graduated child, things that relate to parenting have been jumping out at me lately.  Along with that, I’ve found some encouraging and thought-provoking pieces to share with you.

Here’s what I’ve been reading:

The Tastiest Homemade Popcorn

June 20, 2017 by Susan 10 Comments

There’s nothing like a big pot of homemade popcorn. See what special ingredient makes this popcorn the most flavorful, tastiest you’ve ever made!

This is the only way I make my homemade popcorn...so flavorful and tasty!

A good, big, pot of old-fashioned stovetop homemade popcorn is one of the most wonderful things, don’t you think?

I have fond memories of my dad making popcorn this way when I was young.  As I grew older (think: college years) microwave popcorn was so much easier, so the old ways took a backseat.  Well, they eventually took back over the driver’s seat and now it’s all I make.  Oh, I’ll occasionally pick up the microwave stuff for my kids.  But truly, almost never.

Why?  Because the homemade version is SO much better and SO stinkin’ easy!
