Brain Boosting Word Games

February 6, 2017 by Susan 10 Comments

These word games are challenging and fun. Click here to read more!

I love telling you about new games that I discover.  My family knows that there are certain rules which must be met in order for a game to pass muster.  Word games are usually my go-to when I get to pick what we’re going to play.

Often times, games have a digital counterpart.  These are usually not terribly tempting for me.  My iPad is used mainly for tutoring, in orthodontist waiting rooms, and occasionally in the ladies room.  (Shhhh)  Every once in awhile I’ll pull it out to play a game to kill time, but not so often that I am on the lookout for new games.

I’ve already shared a few of our favorite word games before.  Today, I want to tell you about two things:  One digital game, an app, that I can’t get enough of as well as a card game that my family has been playing quite a lot of.

God’s Truth Conquers Your Parenting Fears

January 30, 2017 by Susan 10 Comments

Parenting fears can be overwhelming. Speaking God's truth into them makes all the difference. Will you trust Him with your children?

All parents have their own arena of parenting fears.  When my boys were young, my fears tended to surround them being taken or harmed.  Fears can paralyze us, can’t they?

I’m interrupting the regularly scheduled post to ask for your prayers today.

My husband’s grandpa has gone missing.  He is 88 years old and hasn’t been seen since Monday afternoon.  This is really the kind of thing that just doesn’t happen to you.  It happens in movies.  Or possibly to other people….on Dateline.

Teens and Social Media: Is Humiliation Inevitable?

January 23, 2017 by Susan 17 Comments

As if youth isn't full of enough opportunities to embarrass oneself locally. Are teens and social media a recipe for disaster?

Is anyone else crazy thankful that social media didn’t exist when you were young?  I embarrassed myself perfectly well the old-fashioned way, thank you very much: Locally.

The advent of social media has taken normal teenage angst, the awkwardness of youth, and the misinformed (but oh-so-passionate) pleas of young adulthood and turned them into international news.

And in an amazing turn of manipulation, these young people have been convinced that this is a good thing!  Remarkable. Continue Reading

Timely Wisdom from Some MLK Speeches You Might Not Have Heard

January 16, 2017 by Susan 18 Comments

Bits of valuable wisdom from some lesser known MLK speeches.

Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As we do so, I’ve pulled a couple of lesser-known speeches he gave that impart some important wisdom.  Wisdom that reminds us that Dr. King was first and foremost a pastor.  Was he a perfect man?  Of course not.  Do I think that negates any wisdom he spoke?  Of course not.
