It’s my birthday today and I’m sharing some fun and light reading I’ve been doing.
I would love to hear what you think, and see what you’ve had open on your desktop this week.
Here’s what I’ve been reading:
Mondegreens … at Ramblin’ With AM. This begins, “I have some problems with mis-hearing song lyrics.” Well, friend, me too. Just ask my family. Did you know that in Toto’s hit song, ‘Africa’ what they are NOT saying is, “There’s nothing that 100 men on Mars could ever do.” Because they are definitely not saying that. My husband, upon hearing me sing said line, turned the radio off, looked at me and said, “Excuse me?”
6 Etiquette Tips for the Powder Room … at Shop Girl Anonymous. She says what we’ve all been thinking for years, ladies. Fair warning, if you’re a squatter who leaves pee spray all over toilet seats– you don’t need to read this, it’ll just upset you.
Just Because I Can, Doesn’t Mean I Always Do … at Heavenly Homemakers. You know that all natural is healthier. You know how to make things from scratch. But sometimes you don’t. Laura’s been there and asks,
Does this mean I’m a hypocrite? No. This means I’m human.
How about you? Human much?
Heroes Come in All Types – How Newt Scamander is Breaking Stereotypes … at Honest Heart and Mind. Any Potterheads out there? How about folks who know and love someone on the spectrum? This article suggests some really interesting things that escaped my notice when we saw ‘Fantastic Beasts’. Could this be our first hero on the Autism spectrum? You decide.
Myer-Briggs Personality Indicator … at Lonerwolf. I have always loved the little quizzes that used to come in magazines and now show up on Facebook or Pinterest and lure me to find out which Disney princess I’m most like (Jasmine) or which breakfast food I am (Pancakes). This personality test is quick (less than 5 minutes) and seems as accurate as much longer tests I’ve done. I found it in looking for career planning tools for my son. I’m ENFP, what are you?
Best Ever German Chocolate Cake … at A Dash of Sanity. Normally I don’t list recipes in my Food for Thought posts. But today happens to be my birthday, and were someone to offer to bake me a cake, I think I’d pick this one. Heck, I’d bake it myself if I wasn’t the only one in my house to eat it! I know, I know…I could make it anyway. But really, with my goal to grow my blog and shrink my body this year, I hardly need an entire cake in the house that only I will eat! Still…it’s pretty, isn’t it?
*update* I had the sweetest friend see this and bake this cake for me. She brought over just enough for me to enjoy. Blessings on good friends!
What have you been reading this week?
*A brief disclaimer…I found these particular articles read-worthy. That doesn’t mean that I agree with or advocate everything on the site on which individual posts appear.
Thanks for sharing, Susan! The thought of a best-ever German Cholocate Cake makes me drool… LOL Is licking your screen considered to be “wrong”?? LOL
I will emphatically answer, no. Lick away!
Great list. I loved that you ended with dessert!
What a great blog idea! I may take your idea if you don’t mind!
Of course! It’s a great way to share all of the good stuff you come across. Have fun with it!
What an excellent Myers Briggs test, quick and accurate just as you said. Oh my word, and that frosting on the cake looks beyond delicious!
I love the idea! But I am afraid, my open tabs are mainly about how to renovate stairs and collecting lots of ideas. And a couple of pages of local carpenters that I want to or have already made appointments with. Actually the only other page open is one of yours that I want to finish reading, it´s homeschool spelling. I loved the dictating runner game! I am trying to think of a version for my 4 & 6 yr old so neither is left out or bored. I am not home schooling ( kids here have to attend school by law) but I live in a non english speaking country and am trying to teach my kids english. They are both fluent in speaking it, reading though is made very difficult by extreme differences in the phonics of the letters and combinations.
Pat, While knowing the names of the carpenters you’re checking out isn’t necessary, of course, I think it’s cool to know that you’re doing renovations. Good luck on the stairs! That sounds like a huge project!
I tutor part time, and have been trying to solve just the problem you brought up…figuring out a way to modify that activity for various ages. I just used it this week with a first grader (age 7, I think). Here’s what we did. I let him choose one of the sight words we’d been working on, and we came up with a sentence using that word. I wrote it on a half sheet of paper with a marker and we read through it together a few times. Then I gave him a piece of paper and had him copy it. Then I did the running part of it…put it on the table on the other side of the room. We did the first word together so he knew what I expected. He thought it was so cool he asked to do another one and “put the paper farther away” (we put it in the kitchen).
For a 4 year old you could even do it with individual words, family member’s names, names of places you go, etc. They would think it was a game!
Good luck with it, and blessings to you!
Thank you so much for the share! 😛
